Head of Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine Built an Estate Near Kyiv

According to ‘Nashi Groshi’ program, family of Viktor Gvozd, ex-Head of Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, possesses 0,7 ha and an estate in Gorbovychi village near Kyiv. Till 2009 earmarking of Gvozd’s land was ‘for farming’. Then it was changed to ‘building and maintenance of residential house’. Today the land plot comprises of four buildings. The biggest one is located in the center and has 634 m2. Another building seems to be an indoor swimming pool. Besides, there is a football field, fitness room, two alcoves and a playground.

According to documents, the estate was built in 2013, although neighbors tell that building process was finished in 2015. Main part of work was done after Viktor Gvozd was appointed to Head of Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine in the beginning of 2014.

When journalists came to Mr. Gvozd’s house for the first time, they talked to his wife. The woman told that it’s unethical to intrude upon private property. As well she said that her husband was in hospital and they would be ready to talk to journalists after he’s discharged.  However, promised talks didn’t happen. Next time when journalists came to Gvozd’s family estate, another man who said he’s a security chief met them. This person came by a car with numbers registered to one of military unit of the Foreign Intelligence Service. He threatened journalists and said that it’s prohibited to make public the address of official who protects the country. Also he advised to contact Viktor Gvozd’s press-service.

The press-service provided information to journalists’ request. According to Viktor Gvozd’s declaration, he owns land and estate. He earned funds for house construction 15-20 years ago when he worked for diplomatic service.

According to Viktor Gvozd’s biography, in 1993 – 1995 he took part in United Nations peacekeeping operations in former Yugoslavia. In 1996 – 1999 he occupied a post of attaché on defense affairs in Ukrainian embassy in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2000 – 2003 he presented the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine under the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN (USA), was a member of Ukrainian delegation in UN Security Council.
